Tamper-evident photo fingerprints
Every photo you export now comes as a stamped copy, with its key, date, time, GPS location and notes printed on the image, alongside the untouched original. Turn on Image Fingerprinting and each original also gets a digital fingerprint recorded on the PhotoLog server, time-stamped by the server’s own clock. Frequently asked questions
Is PhotoLog available on iPhone?
Not yet. PhotoLog is Android only for now, through Google Play. iPhone users can still check PhotoLog photos on the Verify page in any browser. If you’d like PhotoLog on iPhone, email us to join the iPhone list and we’ll let you know if it happens.
Are my photos stored in the cloud?
No. Your photos, GPS locations and notes are stored on your phone and never leave your device. PhotoLog only sends your email address, subscription status and image count to our servers so your account and subscription work. If you turn on Image Fingerprinting, a fingerprint of each exported photo is also recorded, never the photo itself. See our Privacy Policy for details.
What is Image Fingerprinting?
An optional one-time upgrade (CA$14.99) for people who need to show a photo hasn’t been changed. Each time you export, PhotoLog works out a unique fingerprint (a SHA-256 code) for every original photo and records it on our server, time-stamped by the server’s own clock. Turn it on from the PhotoLog menu with Turn On Image Fingerprinting. It’s a single purchase, not a subscription.
How does someone check a photo?
Anyone you send photos to can open the Verify page in any browser, on a computer, iPhone or Android, and drop in the original photo. It’s free and needs no account. The fingerprint is worked out in their browser, so the photo isn’t uploaded. If it matches a record, they see when it was recorded. If even one pixel has changed, it won’t match.
Does a fingerprint prove a photo is genuine?
It shows the photo file hasn’t been changed since it was recorded, and when that was, using our server’s clock rather than the phone’s. It doesn’t prove what the photo shows, and phone GPS can be faked like on any app. That’s why we call it tamper-evident, not tamper-proof.
Does PhotoLog work without a cell signal?
Yes. Taking photos, GPS tagging, notes and exports all work offline. With Image Fingerprinting on, fingerprints wait safely on your phone and are sent the next time you export with a connection. The server time-stamp is the moment they arrive.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Because your photos are stored only on your device, they go with it. We recommend exporting important sets as a ZIP Field Report and saving a copy to your email, computer or cloud drive of choice. Fingerprint records stay on our server, so photos you’ve already sent can still be checked. Your subscription and Image Fingerprinting purchase are tied to your Google account and come back when you install PhotoLog on a new phone.
Are 24 free captures enough to try it properly?
The free plan includes 24 camera captures with every feature unlocked, plus unlimited Photo Snap Sets imports of photos already on your phone — always free. When you need unlimited captures, upgrade inside the app for $2.99/month or $19.99/year.
Can my team use PhotoLog together?
Each person installs PhotoLog on their own phone and keeps their own library. Team members can use the same key (for example, a job number) so everyone’s photos are named consistently, then export their sets as ZIP Field Reports to combine. There is no shared team library.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Google Play. Open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → PhotoLog → Cancel. Step-by-step help is on our Cancel a subscription page. Image Fingerprinting is a one-time purchase, so there’s nothing to cancel.
