How this works

When a PhotoLog user exports a field report, the app calculates a SHA-256 fingerprint of each original photo and records it on the PhotoLog server with the server’s own date and time. Records can be added but never changed or deleted.
  • ✔ Match — this file is identical, byte for byte, to the photo recorded at that time of Capture.
  • ✘ No record — this file is not an unaltered PhotoLog original. It may have been edited, cropped, resized or re-saved — or it was never exported with fingerprints.

Use the photo from the report’s Originals folder. The stamped copies in the Photos folder, screenshots, and images sent through apps that shrink photos (many messaging and social apps) will not match, even if they look the same. A match shows the file is unchanged since it was recorded; it does not by itself show who took the photo or what it depicts.
